Kicking the Metric System to the Proverbial Curb

Congratulations, Constellation Program.

This is one small step for the lazy, one giant leap for America!

That’s right!  The Office of Inspector General had to examine a formal request from NASA’s Constellation Program to throw out the decision to make SI or the Metric System the “lingua franca” as it were.

“We want to get rid of this cockamamie system of 10s and 100s and common sense and back to the nationalistic pride that is the Standard System!  What is a meter, anyway?  Can you touch it?  Of course not, you British and French snobs!  Now a foot; that’s a real unit of measure right there.  We already have two feet built in…how many meters do you have on your hands?”

Okay, so I paraphrased.  The short of it is that NASA said, “No!  Deal with it.”

Spray-On Solar Cells

That’s right, poly(3-hexylthiopene) or P3HT is the answer.  Soon we will be able to produce clean conductive power on virtually any surface.

Now if they could only develop a toothpaste with this stuff.  “Poly-dontics” they could call it.  You would put it on and the world would scream, “His smile is electrifying.”

Ah, to be young again—and also a robot.

Probe sees 'Pac-man in the moon'

Yet again, the bastion of the British media empire, the BBC News, has informed us of earth-shattering headlines:

Probe sees ‘Pac-man in the moon’

No, we here at NikHatter.com do not exaggerate these type of things….much.  But in this case, no exaggeration is needed.  Stupidity in its truest and purest forms are somewhat meritorious in nature, slowly creeping their way to the top and seeping their way into our puny little post-pubescent minds.

Now bear in mind that this is not “our” moon but rather the tiny moon of Mimas orbiting Saturn.  Therefore, we can care more about this extra-terrestrial sighting of the 1980’s icon.

Another point of tedium is that Mimas has a pock mark reminiscent of the Lucas Death Star.

Join the fun of watching for developing scars as the Cassini mission has now been extended to 2017 almost certainly because of this intrepid find.

Neptune is much like Ego, The Living Planet

Pluto may not be a planet anymore, but in my book, neither is Neptune!!!  Not if it’s going around eating other planets and planetoids whilst stealing their moons.  Good gravy, what next?  Intragalactic feuds?

http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg20527522.900-neptune-may-have-eaten-a-planet-and-stolen-its-moon.html?DCMP=NLC-nletter&nsref=mg20527522.900

Here’s the skinny:  Neptune’s formation has always been a mystery.  Blah blah blah.  It may be a conglomeration of a few different planets coming together.  Yadda yadda yadda.  This theory is backed up by a suspicious heat lurking out of the bowels of Neptune itself.  Oh and p.s., Neptune’s moon of Triton is larger than our former favorite planet Pluto.

And that, my friends is why Neptune is like Marvel’s Ego.  The mere fact that planets can snack on other cosmic entities gives me the willies.  (Just like Ego.)

Happy New Opera Day!!

Yep, you heard correctly.  Opera Mini 5 and Opera Mobile 10 are now stable non-beta versions.

That’s it.  That’s all I got.  I just can’t bring myself to care about this momentous occasion.

I’m sorry.  I tried.

Don't Use Twitter, Use "Twitter"

The information network that we all know, love, and obsess over has come out to say,

Our goal is not to just maximise that – we understand that people have a limited amount of time and attention and our hope is that Twitter can help you direct your attention in ways that are useful to you.

"So we have no interest in just increasing the time you spend on the Twitter site – if anything we'd like to decrease it. We want to make Twitter a tool for you that helps you get stuff done."

I suppose this makes sense.  Let’s use this as a funnel to sharpen our interests and let people find what they need.  OR…you can just tell me what you are eating for breakfast.

Do they really want us to stop using this?  How’s this picture for evidence?

Novell Deserves More than $2,000,000,000

For the love of PETE!

(Link to article)

Who in their right mind would think that Novell should go for less than a mere 4 big B’s?  I dare say, perhaps they could settle for maybe $3.82 billion, but no less.

And we younglings have all heard of Novell and know exactly what they brought us through the years:

See, we know and care about what you’ve brought us, Novell.  Wait-what?  Those are all your acquisitions, you say?

Oh,

Well…then I guess….uhhh…

Well.  Thanks for everything.

Make a Statement with the "Detectair"

Oh that’s right, it can slice, dice, and even sniff your neighbor.  Even though this isn’t suitable for when you would need it most: siphoning ether from your neighbor’s car, monitoring H2S in your local terrorist target, or using eco-friendly gardening.

For CRYING OUT LOUD!!! It’s a shirt/jacket for women that care about pollution!

Who is the demographic here?  Women who can’t smell?  People who need to know they are in a post-apocalyptic warzone before it happens?

This is dumb.

Freakin' "Beep!"

Leave it to the New York Times to keep the public well informed and up to date.  I’m no Anderson Cooper Rockefeller, but I don’t necessarily think this story should be included in what he and I call the “360” cut.  Maybe the 1080, but definitely not in the inner circle that is Anderson’s Cooper, if you know what I mean.

Let me sum up this Cadillac of journalistic pieces.  Ready?  Ya, sure?

“beep”  That’s right folks, it’s been around a while and we all love it and its great and I will like to snuggle with it at night with my McGill University Professor Jonathan Sterne.  Who also loves the “beep” btw.

Everyone give it a round of applause!! (what a crock)
